The majority of the following programs have been designed by the Public Education Division of the Bonita Springs Fire Control and Rescue District to better serve the needs of our residents.
1. Heartsaver CPR- AED Interactive information presented to an audience with an Automatic External Defibrillator on or around their home or work. This is a more advanced Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation instruction. Includes instruction on how to properly use and/or purchase an Automatic External Defibrillator.
2. CPR for Healthcare Provider Interactive information presented to an audience of fitness professionals or first responders on a more advanced Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation instruction.
3. Falls Prevention Information presented to an audience on how to prepare your home and alter your lifestyle to prevent falls.
4. Safe Babysitting Interactive information presented to an audience regarding preparation tips, first aid and C.P.R. for children.
5. Fire Extinguisher Training Interactive information presented to an audience on how to use a fire extinguisher, the different types of extinguishers available, which type is more suitable for your home/work and where to store an extinguisher.
6. Community Emergency Response Team Volunteer program consisting of 18+ year-old adults who are interested in assisting the fire department at events and emergencies by receiving education from a variety of practical courses.
7. Explorer Post Volunteer program consisting of 14-20 year-old students who are interested in obtaining a career in the fire service by receiving education from a variety of practical courses.
8. Safe Place Program designed to temporarily assist youth who are in need of assistance with medical, housing or family issues.
9. Safe Haven Program designed to temporarily assist infants who are in need of assistance with medical, housing or family issues.
10. Car Seat Installation Certified Car Seat Technicians provide education to caregivers and assist in the installation of car seats for infants, toddlers and young children. As well as providing an Emergency Information Tag for each child which will aid first responders in better on-scene and post-scene care of the children if they are in a vehicle collision.
11. Juvenile Fire Setter Intervention Program consisting of aid for 2-18 year-old children who are in need of fire safety education in order understand the dangers and consequences of fire play.
12. Water/Pool Water Watcher and Safety Program Information presented to an audience about the dangers that accompany water areas and how to use “layer of protection” to make your family more safe around indoor and outdoor water areas.
13. Display and Literature Booths at community events Information presented at an event to educate large amounts of residents. Tent, tables, chairs, literature, and hand-outs are supplied by Bonita Springs Fire-Rescue.
14. Clowning Clowning is used as a vehicle to speak to children about fire safety. “Sizzle” requires a fire safety question to be answered prior to offering a prize.
15. Robots General Fire Safety information presented via “Squirt” the robotic fire engine at an event.
16. Sharps Program Collection of used needles at every Bonita Springs Fire Station in sealed “Sharps” container. Replacement containers are provided to residents.
17. Blood Pressure Service offered at events. Free Blood Pressure screening by Bonita Springs Firefighters.
18. Equipment and Apparatus Tours Tours and education presented to an audience at events or at any of the Bonita Springs Fire-Rescue Stations throughout the district.
19. Fire Station Tours Tours presented to an audience at any of the Bonita Springs Fire-Rescue Stations throughout the district.
20. Preschool Fire and Life Safety Curriculum Interactive safety information presented to a preschool audience. Curriculum consists of 9-1-1 education, matches and lighters education, exit drills in the home and safe meeting place education.
21. Elementary Fire and Life Safety Curriculum Interactive safety information presented to an elementary school audience. Each grade has a different practical lesson plan.
22. Traveling Toy Trunk The traveling toy trunk is delivered to preschools. The trunk is filled with books, puzzles, videos, music, small-sized bunker gear and a 9-1-1 telephone for children to practice calling the emergency number.
23. Puppet Shows General fire safety information presented via a puppet show to an elementary school audience or at an event.
24. Smoke/CO Detector Education Information is presented to an audience regarding proper smoke/CO detector installation, maintenance, and importance.
25. Home Fire Safety Education Information is presented to an audience about the importance of fire safety procedures in the home including, dialing 9-1-1, exit drills, a safe meeting place, fire extinguishers and smoke detectors.
26. Severe Weather Education Information presented to an audience about any severe weather native to Bonita Springs such as hurricanes and tornados. Evacuation plans and kits are discussed and encouraged.
27. Brushfire Education Information presented to an audience about brushfire awareness and prevention. Evacuation plans and kits are discussed and encouraged.
28. Santa and Easter Bunny Delivery A Santa or Easter Bunny provided by the requesting agency can be delivered to any holiday event by a fire engine.
29. Parade Participation Fire apparatus are able to participate in or at parade events throughout the community.
30. Lee County Interactive Safety Trailer Interactive information presented to an audience inside a trailer equipped with weather, fire, and kitchen safety hands-on information.
31. Smoke Tunnel 15-foot tunnel filled with artificial smoke. Children or adults can crawl through the tunnel to understand what it would feel like to crawl low under smoke. The tunnel is dark and usually warm from the sun which also simulates actual conditions of fire.
32. General Fire Department Information Information presented to an audience about the Fire Department. Education on history of the Bonita Springs Fire Department, common questions, facts and statistics, and equipment and services provided.
