Prohibited Use of LP Gas Heaters and Other Appliances:
The Florida Fire Prevention Code (FFPC), adopted by the State of Florida, became effective in January of 2005. A new section (NFPA 1,10.11.7) has direct impact on some occupancies within our community at this time of year as follows:

"For other than one and two family dwellings no hibachi, gas fired grill, charcoal grill, or similar devices used for cooking, heating or any other purpose, shall be used pr kindled on any balcony or under any overhanging portion or within 10 ft (3m) of any structure. Listed electric ranges, grills or similar electric appliances shall be permitted." FFPC NFPA 1,10.11.7

This letter is a response to heaters used by some restaurants and businesses throughout the community to keep their customers warm this time of year. Any heater other than listed electric type/appliance is prohibited by code when used within ten (10) foot of a building. The use of the Gas type heater(s) is specifically limited to outdoors (by the manufacturer as well as the code), and the storage of 20 lb. LP gas cylinders used to operate these units are not permitted inside of commercial building.

It is our desire to inform you so you can protect your property, business, patrons and the employees of your establishment. Voluntarily compliance avoids any necessity for enforcement action, and assures a safe environment for all.
